Advanced Trauma & Stress Recovery

Healing that goes beyond traditional talk therapy.

If you feel stuck repeating the same painful loops, experiencing constant daily anxiety, or carrying the invisible weight of past trauma, traditional talk therapy can sometimes feel like it only scratches the surface. At Valadez Counseling Services, I use specialized, brain-body approaches called EMDR and Brainspotting. These tools help your nervous system naturally process and release heavy experiences so you can finally find relief and feel more grounded.

What is EMDR?

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured approach that helps your brain reprocess stuck, distressing memories.

  • How it works: We use gentle, side-to-side eye movements or alternating taps (known as bilateral stimulation) while you briefly hold a difficult memory in mind.

  • The Result: This process mimics the natural healing your brain does during REM sleep. It blunts the painful emotional sting of the memory, allowing you to remember what happened without your body reacting as if you are still in danger.

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a powerful therapeutic tool that locates where trauma, stress, and emotional pain are physically held within the deep, survival parts of your brain.

  • How it works: We work together to find a specific eye position—or "brainspot"—where a physical or emotional feeling is most strongly activated. By gently holding your gaze on that spot, we unlock a direct pathway to your nervous system.

  • The Result: This allows your brain to process and release deep-seated trauma from the bottom up, without requiring you to constantly talk about or analyze the painful details out loud.

You Are Always in Control

One of the main benefits of both EMDR and Brainspotting is that you do not have to talk about every painful detail of your story out loud to get relief. Your brain already has a natural ability to heal. These tools simply provide a safe, focused space to let that process happen.

While these approaches are helpful for anyone dealing with chronic stress or anxiety, they are very effective for:

  • Veterans and Military Families managing the unique stress of service and returning to civilian life.

  • First Responders dealing with the regular impact of high-stress work environments.

  • Individuals who feel constantly stuck in a state of high alert or feel emotional stress physically in their bodies.
